Mother’s day : Top 5 Healthy Habits for Super Mothers

Mother’s day : Top 5 Healthy Habits for Super Mothers

Mother’s Day 2021 date: International Mother’s Day is an important occasion that falls on the second Sunday of May every year. As such, it does not have a fixed date, and this year, it will be celebrated on May 9

Why is it celebrated?

Mothers deserve to be celebrated every day. Their tireless contributions towards the family, the many sacrifices made by them are worthy of a mention and acknowledgement. Mother’s Day, as such, comes as a reminder to think about mothers, and mother-like figures in our life, who inspire us every day, and make us want to be better people.

This Mother’s Day, let’s look at five healthy tips to celebrate the right way and encourage her to adopt a much needed healthy lifestyle that she deserves.

Read on:

  1. Swap Sugar with 100% Pure Honey

Regulate her sugar intake as a conscious change towards a healthier lifestyle. Pure honey helps in weight management, immunity boosting and skin rejuvenation. Honey in its purest form is anti-fungal and anti-bacterial thus helps fight infections. While honey is a common ingredient found in most Indian households, we may all not be consuming organic and pure honey, and it is equally important for us to check its purity standards.

It is also Versatile in nature, can be used in baking, dressings, marinades, sauces in all sorts of savory and sweet dishes. You can also add it to your tea, green tea, turmeric milk and in all the immunity booster shots like honey in a glass of warm water, a few drops of lemon, half inch of ginger, ¼ tsp turmeric and a pinch of black pepper to keep viral infections at bay.

2. Detoxing

“Detoxing might mean something different to me and something different to you, and something entirely different to a doctor,” says Robin Foroutan, RDN, a spokesperson for the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. “The semantics are an issue here. Are you trying to reduce inflammation? Lose weight? Those are different things,” she says.

“When people come to me as a dietitian, and say they want to follow a detox diet. I usually ask them what they mean first,” says Jessica Jones, RDN and co-author of The 28 Day Plant-Powered Reboot. “Sometimes it’s fasting or a strict cleanse or something of that nature, which I don’t recommend,” she says, “but sometimes people use the term detox to mean they are removing processed foods from their diet, or they may feel like they have an intolerance to something, so they are going through an elimination diet, both of which I do recommend.”

  • Veggies – Yep, this boring ol’ advice keeps coming up because they’re that good for you. Cruciferous vegetables like kale, cauliflower, and broccoli are A+ choices, says Jones, because fiber strengthens the colon, a chief detoxing organ.
  • H2O – Water’s beauty and wellness benefits seem infinite. If you aren’t drinking the recommended 64 daily ounces already, here’s another reason: Hydration helps with digestion, and therefore with toxin elimination, according to Harrison.

3. Decrease Your Salt Intake

Consuming too much salt can cause your body to retain excess fluid, especially if you have a condition that affects your kidneys or liver — or if you don’t drink enough water.

This excess fluid buildup can cause bloating and make clothing uncomfortable. If you find yourself consuming too much salt, you can detox yourself of the extra water weight.

While it may sound counterintuitive, increasing your water intake is one of the best ways to eliminate excess water weight from consuming too much salt.

That’s because when you consume too much salt and not enough water, your body releases an antidiuretic hormone that prevents you from urinating — and therefore detoxifying.

4. Exercise is a must!

Exercise helps to stay fit and healthy and lowers the risk of some disease. In addition, exercise has also been proven to lower our risks of depression, improves mental well-being which is just as important for overall health! Look out for online simple exercises at home which is very crucial in current times. Follow the norms of frequent handwashing, physical distancing, face mask and maintaining a balanced diet to improve immunity.

5. Super-foods for the Super mothers

The new normal has made our mothers even stronger, we need to make sure her health is a priority to be able to always put her best foot forward. Add some super-foods to her diet.

While we all celebrate our mothers and their motherhood that enables us to stay safe and happy in such difficult times, it’s time we give them a warm hug filled with healthy habits to make sure they put themselves first and continue being the bond of love that gels our families together. Source
